Dragon Story

  • what`s the crack with deleting that page?

    • The reasons for deleting it were discussed near the bottom of this thread.

    • I'll summarize/expand on the reasons here.

      1) With the introduction of Heart dragons, the current format is now out of date.  The Breeding Charts were created with two major assumptions:

      • Any listed color counts as one color towards Diamond breeding. This is no longer true of the Heart color, which counts as zero colors.  The most correct way to respond would be to list LeftHeart and RightHeart in the same group as Athletic (Red/Blue).  However, this would be confusing because we all know that LeftHeart and RightHeart have "three" colors with Heart included.
      • All dragons can be bred based upon color pool alone. The Passion Dragon renders this statement false.  It can only be bred using the LeftHeart and RightHeart dragon together, but every other offspring in the red/blue color pool does not require LeftHeart + RightHeart specifically.  With the current table format, it is impossible to display the distinction for the Passion Dragon correctly.  Using a new table format that *can* display this distinction will make the page even more unwieldy than it already is, and the size of the page is already a problem.

      2) The Breeding Charts were originally built as an undesirable but necessary alternative to the Breeding Calculator, which is forced to use javascript by wikia.  However, Hyper ch has built a much better tool off-site here, which does not suffer the limitations of javascript and thus can be run regardless of whether javascript is disabled.  Since it provides much more accurate info than the Breeding Charts in a less load/scroll-intensive fashion, the existence of the Breeding Charts only serves to confuse people and provide incorrect info.

      3) Although mentioned before, it requires more stressing.  The Breeding Charts were getting incredibly long due to all the new rules and increasing size of color pools.  Accommodating the Heart dragons would require a complete change to the already-minimized-but-still-gargantuan format, adding even more load time and more ridiculous scrolling, which was literally unusable on my iPhone.  It would be much better to direct people with javascript issues off-site to Hyper ch's tool.

    • Well, to fully use my tool, you also need JS :) But the basic stuff runs without JS.

    • Either the tool doesn't work or more explanation is needed. I went to the "by parent" part. According to that, breeding an Eagle with a Super will yeid a Honeybee 100% I tried and ended up with a worthless Mist.

    • The "By Parents" section is a list of user-submitted breeding results.  The only people who submitted results for Eagle + Super reported getting Honeybee.  I actually haven't visited the site for a while and no longer know what all the tabs mean, Hyper ch will be able to explain better than me.

Also, does the Breeding Calculator not work for you?  It's got the simple barebones stuff of breeding outcomes or possible parents for a desired outcome.  Hyper's tool is more elaborate with more features.

    • Reading helps: "Click the parent combo to see the offspring details this far recorded in the database"

Yes it works fine. I just REALLY like being able to look over the breeding chart and pick out something to shoot for. It always worked for me. Probably because I haven't gotten into some of the more exotic dragons. Is there a way for you to supply that chart? Make the page available for download or something for a bit? I miss it a lot.

    • The problem, as previously outlined, is that the Breeding Charts are now incorrect and impossible to make correct with the same format due to a change in breeding paradigm.  It is poor wiki policy to provide incorrect information.

You mention that you used them to pick out a dragon to shoot for.  I'm not sure if you've tried this yet, but you can do this faster and more intuitively by having the Eggs and Breeding Calculator tabs open side-by-side.  Scrolling down the Eggs page lets you view the list of dragons, their pictures, and their egg images, which is better than the Breeding Chart because you get a visual reminder instead of just text that states the names of dragons.  After you select a dragon you're interested in, you can use the Breeding Calculator to find out more about it with a few clicks.

If you can be more specific with what exactly the Breeding Charts provided that no other page could do better, then perhaps we can set up a new page specifically designed to fulfill that role.  No matter what, however, the old Breeding Charts format can no longer provide accurate information. If you're not sure how to pinpoint the unique features, just try to be as detailed as possible and describe your experience so that we can try to narrow it down. :)
